Maciej Kuś

Born in Poland, currently (since 2014) lives in Bergen. Professional figure skater and figure skating coach. Former competitive figure skater at an international level. Polish representative at a Senior Level, throughout many years. Maciej was a multiple Polish National Champion during his competitive career: from the Juvenile categories, through Novice and Junior and up to the Senior Category. He represented Poland at many international competitions of a high value. In the Junior category, some of them include: Skate Helena (1st place), Grand Prize SNP (1st place), European Criterium series, taking the gold medal (98) and placing consistently on the podium, as well as ISU Junior Grand Prix series, where he placed 14th (season 2000/01), 9th (season 01/02), 16th (season 01/02). Maciej also represented his country at Junior World Figure Skating Championships.

 

At a Senior Level, he competed at many international competitions of a high importance, such as Karl Schäfer Memorial, Ondrej Nepela Memorial, Nebelhorn Trophy, Golden Spin of Zagreb, Finlandia Trophy. He was a Polish representative at both European (season 04/05) and World Figure Skating Championships (season 02/03 and 04/05).  

 

He trained with Maria Domagała and Andrzej Strzelec as his coaches. Maciej has also trained with Hungarian National Representatives´ coach Gurgen Vardanyan at many training camps of Polish Representatives´ Team, as well as with former Russian National Representative Alexei Vasilevsky.

 

After having finished his competitive career, Maciej got his license of a skating instructor from Polish Figure Skating Association, approved by the Ministry of Sports and began his work as a figure skating coach. His coaching career includes training skaters in clubs in Katowice (Poland), Opole (Poland), Madrid (Spain), Cracow (Poland), Krynica Gorska (Poland) and Bergen (Norway). During his coaching career, he has taken part in various skating seminars, aimed to improve the level of the sport and share knowledge. At those seminars, he had a chance to learn from highly valued skating personalities, such as: Alexander Vedenin, Nuria Pirogova, Evgeni Rukavicin, Andrei Lushchikov and Vladimir Dvojnikov. 

 

As a performer, Maciej took part in many Exhibition Galas, which were part of the International Competitions, performed in a skating adaptation of ´The Snow Queen´ tale in Germany, as well as played the role of a figure skater in an episode of Polish detective TV- series for TVN station. In Bergen, he performed in a video -project of a Serbian artist Jovana Solunović - Mitrović, as well as with Nordic Ice Theatre at a presentation at Slåtthaugen Kunstisbane in February 2020.

 

Maciej is currently a coach at Bergen Kunstløpklubb, as well as an artist of Nordic Ice Theatre.
